Primers & Cleaners Explained...

Solvent Degreasers
Degreasers work to remove grease, clean and prepare substrates prior to mastic sealant, coatings or other material application. Solvents are used in degreasers typically, to dissolve the oils, machining fluids or other contaminants that might be on the surface. Porous Primers
A quick explanation from wikipedia says the following: Porosity or void fraction is a measure of the void (i.e. “empty”) spaces in a material, and is a fraction of the volume of voids over the total volume, between 0 and 1, or as a percentage between 0% and 100%. Strictly speaking, some tests measure the “accessible void, the total amount of void space accessible from the surface.

With regards to primers, surfaces which are naturally porous (such as some stone, concrete, untreated timber etc.) often require closing or sealing before a mastic joint sealant is applied to ensure that the bond can be made between the surfaces. Specialist porous primers are created from such solvents as polyorganosiloxane and isocyanate resin.
