Almost 50 years of waterproofing know how

Obviously our strength and key skills as a company lie in mastic joint sealants as they’re the core of our entire product range. Waterproofing goes hand-in-hand with this genre of trade and as such, has become a large part of our business across many trades for many different applications. We stock lots of technologically-advanced waterproofing materials alongside older, tried and tested products, all manufactured by the biggest and most trusted global sealant names, including Adshead Ratcliffe (ARBO), Bondaglass Vos (Rustins), C-Tec Ltd. (CT1), Dow Corning (DOWSIL), Everbuild, Fosroc, Geocel, illbruck, Liquid Jacket, Mapei, OTTO-Chemie, Resiblock, Safeguard Europe, Shell, Sika & Thompsons.

What's The Difference?

Waterproofing Materials Explained...

  1. Damp Proofing

When deciding on the correct products for treating or preventing water damage, there’s an obvious difference between damp proofing and waterproofing in that dampproofing is used to deter the moisture created from soil, whilst waterproofing deters and stops moisture and liquids such as water. Damp proofing is usually applied to the outside of the wall as a paint or coating and is either bitumen-based, or a type of cream. Damp proofing is also applied to the insides of external walls via drilling and injection.

  2. EPDM Membranes

Gaining trust and reliability in the waterproofing industry over the last 3 x decades, rubber membrane systems have become a goto choice for roofers, facades and frame installers. EPDM short for ethylene propylene diene monomer, is a type of synthetic rubber  elastomer which is characterised by a wide range of applications. The M refers to its classification in ASTM standard D-1418; the M class includes rubbers having a saturated chain of the polymethylene type. Dienes currently used in the manufacture of EPDM rubbers are dicyclopentadiene (DCPD), ethylidene norbornene (ENB), and vinyl norbornene (VNB). EPDM rubber is closely related to ethylene propylene rubber (ethylene propylene rubber is a copolymer of ethylene and propylene whereas EPDM rubber is a terpolymer of ethylene, propylene and a diene-component).

  3. Tanking

Used to prevent water ingress, tanking products or tanking systems create a tank, or barrier around a room, structure or building. For floors, walls and ceilings, tanking is normally some sort if thixotropic liquid and is applied by way of brush, squeegee or trowel etc.

The best way to determine product choice is by deciding on what it's used for

Waterproofing By Application

  1. Anti-Rust Coatings

Typically painted on with a brush or roller, coatings that treat rust and/or give future rust protection (typically known as anti-rust) are made from zinc and generally all thixotropic in nature. Used for rust proofing exposed steels, piping or anywhere else where metal is exposed to the elements, anti rust coatings are practical solutions for many maintenance, refurbishment and installations in construction.

  2. Bath Seal Waterproofing

Sealing around baths to stop water leaking downwards around the edges is a common problem. Using flexible membranes as belt & braces before installation is a good option but whilst prevention is better than cure, often, it’s too late to protect the substrate behind the bath and thus, then there’s a whole range of silicone sealants to seal the gaps and joints from leakage penetration.

As tiling is an ever popular method of decorating and finishing areas of high humidity, such as bathrooms, wet rooms, kitchens and other food establishments, the grout to seal the joints between the tiles has evolved into more technologically-advanced products that offer more flexibility, durability and waterproofing performance in a growing range of colour options.

BONDAGLASS-VOSS LTD. IS NOW OWNED AND OPERATED BY RUSTINS

In the early 1960s Bondaglass was a leading brand of polyester fillers for vehicle repair and polyester resins for laminating with glass fibre. This became a leading anti-rust product and is still highly respected by the car restorer. Of its type it is among the best on the market. Other products were glass fibre for use in repairing cars, boats and many other articles around the home. In 1973 Bondaglass joined with Vosschemie, a manufacture of similar quality products in Germany and throughout Europe. Bondaglass -Voss was founded.
