3C Paintable Sealant
What is 3C Paintable Sealant?
Placed in the market as a painters caulk for ease of reference, 3C Paintable Premium Sealant is a 1-part, overpaintable, acrylate-based mastic sealant with a superior flexibility of 18% which can be used on most types of surfaces and substrates for a multitude of filling and sealing tasks.
Especially efficient inside, it can also be used outside so long as the surface(s) is dry upon application and the curing material is kept bone dry for at least 30 minutes after use.
Is 3C Paintable Sealant just a painters caulk?
Usually called painters caulk or decorators caulk (or incorrectly chalk or cork) most people know caulk sealants as the cheap £1 (or less) water-based sealants that are like emulsion and dry hard for covering gaps & cracks to paint over, but often, little consideration is given to the movement quality of these products.
The main problems encountered by professional tradespersons and DIY home users alike on a daily basis when using standard caulk products is one of unsuitable flexibility and shrinkage of the cured sealant in the joint, gap or crack thus causing the material to break down and crack or split, either quite soon after curing or over a short period of time.
Enter a new breed of painters caulk product… 3C Paintable Premium Sealant.
Overpaintable after just 1 hour and sporting a massive flexibility of 18% (compared to caulks 5-12%) 3C Paintable Sealant out performs all standard painters caulks etc. and acts almost as a silicone does (with regards to movement etc.)
What makes 3C Paintable Sealant different from other caulking sealants?
As mentioned above, we tend to place this product in the category for similar sealants such as caulks as most tradespeople know and regularly use these types of sealants for new build and remedial/snagging works.
Why use 3C Paintable Sealant instead of silicone sealants?
The simple answer is it that it’s overpaintable! Normal silicones are rubberised when fully cured meaning that they’re resistant to water (or any other liquid) and you’ll find that your chosen coating whether it be stains or paints will simply bead off of the surface due to their closed rubber nature.
Often times when sealing a gap, crack or other inconsistency in a connecting joint, using a silicone will give a contrasted look with a distinct shiny finish which is not desirable for many types of decoration, 3C Paintable will perform as well as a silicone with regards to gunning out and also tooling off but with a matt finish that will disappear when painted or coated.
Another strong argument for using 3C Paintable Sealant versus silicone is on sealing applications where painting might happen in the future,,, imagine a white finish left for a year or so then a change of decoration is required, if white silicone was used for the joints then it cannot be painted over and will need cutting out and replacing. If 3C Paintable Sealant is used and left white then painting in the future is absolutely an option.
Who is 3C Paintable Sealant actually for?
Although considered somewhat of a painter & decorators material, 3C Paintable Sealant offers a perfect balance of sealant and caulk which lends itself to many different types of tasks and trades for new building and snagging/remedial works.
More and more these days when it comes to design & build construction, it seems that many companies tend to employ all-rounder staff that are proficient in various stages of a project or job as opposed to multiple tradespersons at various different stages of the build. 3C Paintable Sealant works very well for these types of users who aren’t especially concerned with the sealant application aspect but rather need a product that does the job and is reliable and long-lasting.
As well as being a very useful tool in a tradesperson’s box, 3C Paintable Sealant also gives the casual home user or DIY enthusiast a high quality, affordable caulking option that will seal, protect and take a coating particularly well whilst being user-friendly, reliable and long-lasting.
Examples of what 3C Paintable Sealant can be used for?
Especially suited to internal work, but can also be used externally (if the surface(s) is dry upon application and the curing material is kept bone dry for at least 30 minutes after use).
Can be used against most metals (including powdercoated aluminium) / Concrete / Most plastics / UPVC/PVC / Ceramics (glazed and unglazed) / Most woods / Glass / Masonry or Plaster in situations where there’s a gap, crack or hole such as door stops, window frames or any other connections where 2 x edges meet, either prior to painting or staining the surfaces or even to a complete decorative finish if the required surface is to be white.
Here’s some specific examples of applications where 3C Paintable might be used:
- On the edge of MDF cover panelling on the back of a toilet to the adjacent wall.
- Between 2 x straight edges of new finished plasterboard where an inconsistent gap is present.
- On the outside edge of a mitred skirting board joint to tidy and decorate it.
- Around a UPVC frame where a chip or crack has occurred.
- Door return stop bars to frames where a bow or other inconsistency has caused an unsightly gap.
- Externally on a summerhouse where the timber cladding panels meet the frame uprights.
- Joints between walls and ceilings (or covings) where movement cracks and gaps have occurred.
What colours is 3C Paintable Sealant available in?
- White
Although not so common, painters caulk and other water-based acrylic sealants in various colours are available in some brands but the main point of a paintable sealant is literally that it’s just that,,, a paste that cures to an over-paintable seal and that’s why the majority of such products are simply white.
We only make our 3C Paintable Sealant in white with a view to it being easily coverable with many coatings.
What benefits does 3C Paintable Sealant give you?
- No special tools required other than a standard mastic sealant gun
- Permanent elasticity
- Good U.V. and weather-resistance
- Gun & run (i.e. no sanding and/or cutting back, just tool off and job done)
- Superior flexibility to standard caulks: 18%
- Overpaintable with most paints
- Interior and light exterior use

- Skins over in 20 minutes
How do you apply 3C Paintable Sealant?
